Summary
In 1990, Iraq invades Kuwait and George Bush Sr. and UN places sanctions on Iraq to pull out and 30 countries join a coalition against Iraq (including Arab countries but not Israel) so USA made sure Israel didn't join coalition in fear of losing Arab support therefore Kuwait liberated after 4 days which resulted in 90 000 Iraqi casualties. Bush didn't invade Iraq or remove Saddam (wanted to keep Arab support) but did use a threat of poison and gas. Saddam tried to get Israelis involved by firing SCUD missiles at them (wanted Arabs against Western world) and the USA gave them the Patriot Missile to shoot down SCUDs (didn't want them involved in the war) because of new technology used (smart bombs, stealth bombers) so devastating bombardments occurred and Kuwait oil fields set on fire as Iraqis left.
